The only way to achieve this is to either use an ESP like MailChimp, Aweber, or SendGrid, … or have it on your own dedicated server or VPS.
What is better, you might ask. Well, if you can go with any of the above-mentioned ESPs, go with it! It will make your life a lot easier if you can follow their strict rules. They will also make sure your newsletter is sent by a perfectly configured system, and handle your bounces and spam complaints. Well if there are too many they will simply close your account and all your work will be lost.
So let’s get back to our subject. How to set up and configure a perfect server like the above-mentioned ESPs have and use it without any rules and limits. Things can get a bit tricky here since there is so much that needs to be done.
Before we start, let us take a quick look at what we’ll do on your soon-to-be-perfect bulk email server.
We’ll create a secure server configuration based on the Linux operating system that we’ll be able to access over SSH and SFTP. We’ll have webmail, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP for our system emails like postmaster, abuse, DMARC, … We’ll set reverse DNS, multiple IPs, domains, … and at the end automatic backups so our work will not be lost in case anything goes wrong.
Your Bulk Email server will use PowerMTA with a smart queue and custom domain rules for best deliverability. PowerMTA will also take care of automatic bounce processing, unlimited SMTPs/MTAs, and backoff rules so that even the worst-case scenarios will have a happy ending. Of course, we’ll also make sure our DKIM, DMARC, and SPF records are set up correctly and that Feedback loops (FBL) or spam complaints are properly taken care of without any work from our end.
To manage our lists and newsletters we’ll use Mumara. In case you haven’t heard of it I’ll give it to you like this. I’m sure you have heard about Interspire Emarketer and the fact that it’s used by all serious e-marketers.
